Going Forward...Remaining Faithful

As many of you who are reading this blog already know, the ministry Pat and I have been part of for the past 2 1/2 years, Rescue Atlanta Ministries, has closed it's doors. Rescue Atlanta provided so many services to help the homeless, it would be nearly impossible to replace. That ministry served the homeless in the inner-city of Atlanta for 23 years, preaching the Gospel, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and even providing showers for people four days a week. Rescue Atlanta also held regular outreaches, with many teams of students and other vounteers who came to the facility from all over the U.S. Pat and I had the priviledge of being in charge of many of the outreaches of this great ministry, taking teams to the streets of Atlanta for evangelism. After a training session , we would then all go out and minister to people on the street, in parks and to the homeless wherever we found them. The closing of Rescue Atlanta has left a huge hole in the city, and many of our homeless friends are starting to realize just how important this ministry was to them.

Pat and I believe God has called us to continue what we have been doing here for the past 2 1/2 years, serving the homeless and the body of Christ through having regular outreaches, and taking teams of students and volunteers to continue reaching the people God desperately wants. We have rented a large loft in Covington, Ga. about 30 minutes from the city, where we can house and train teams of up to 20 (10 men and 10 women) for outreach on the streets of Atlanta. Just last weekend, we had our first team come and stay at our new facility, and we had a powerful time of ministry. Out of the 10 people who were with us, we discovered that 5 of them had not yet received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. On Friday night after the teaching on prayer, we laid hands on those five and all of them received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues!

On Saturday morning, I taught the team on power evangelism, and specifically how to minister God's healing power to the sick and afflicted outside the church walls. After lunch, we all loaded up and headed downtown to Woodruff Park, located in the center of Atlanta near the Five Points Marta train station. As the teams began to minister to the people, the people opened their hearts. Several were healed of various sicknesses and torments. Several of them were deeply moved and surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ. It was wonderful! That night, when we arrived back at the loft, everyone shared their experiences, and we all had a wonderful time giving glory to God for all He accomplished in us and through us.

On Sunday, we all went back to Woodruff Park for a time of worship and minitry. Several people came from different areas of the park to see what we were doing, and two were healed and four surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ right there in public. Glory to God!!

Pat and I will officially move to Covington in October, and we will stay in a small loft in the same building where the large minstry loft is located. The landlord has graciously given us permission to have outreach teams come and stay there on the weekends before we officially move in. By doing this, we can have the rent covered for a month or more before we move in. Perhaps some of you reading this have a desire to come and bring a team with you to be trained and equipped for evangelism and healing ministry. Perhaps you are part of a group of believers who have a desire to help people who are desperate and hurting, but don't yet have the experience to know how to get started.

Broken Pieces Outreach Ministries is dedicated to both reaching the lost and afflicted here in Atlanta with the Gospel of Jesus Christ as well as equipping the saints to do the same. Our contact information is located in another post on this blog. Send us an email or call us to shedule a team to come and be trained for outreach on a Friday through Sunday.

  2. I am an outreach group leader at Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC. It was my team that Joel is talking about in this post. I would encourage anyone that wants to be used by God to "Heal the sick, and proclaim the Kingdom of God is at hand" (Luke 10:9) to spend time with Joel and Pat. I believe if you want to see miracles and walk in the Spirit, then hang out with someone that is seeing the Kingdom manifested, and it will rub off on you!

The time I have spent with Joel has mostly been on the battlefield to win souls, on the streets and in the villages. I can tell you that he is the real deal. If he teaches you something about God, it is not only through knowledge of the scriptures, which he has, it is because he walks in that Word, because he has suffered for it, because he would die for it. That teaching will show you something with spiritual authority brother!

I also believe with Joel that we grow by doing the Word (James 1:22-25). So what we learned and received impartation on Friday night and Saturday morning we took to the streets on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. We "experienced" the power of the Holy Spirit to heal, to convict, and to save the lost, working through our own hands!! Praise God!!

Serving God is dynamic and exciting and thrilling!!! I love the butterfies you get in your stomach when you hit the streets. There is no football game, or movie, or vacation that compares with serving the Lord. This is what we all need to be doing 24/7, 365!

I highly recommend Broken Pieces Outreach ministry, you and your team will be eternally blessed by engaging with them. Feel free to contact me with any questions about my experience.
